May 28, 1949 The People Backed Out, The Coat Got Returned, Sell the Calves and Buy the Dishes and B Talks New England

B's slides from his New England collection, 1947
Dear Mother & Daddy,

"The sun is out at last but it is still cold.  The kids can play out, though, which helps a lot.  Toni and Lynn came home Sun. and Lynn was so happy to be home she just danced all over the place.

We thought we had rented the house I told you about but the people backed out.  The tourist home, where they work, is up for sale and they are afraid they'll be without a home if it did sell and they had rented.  The man came to see us Wed. evening about renting it.  B gave him a check and was to make out the lease.  Thurs. we took the lease to them and they gave us back the check.  We had told so many people and everyone was happy and had even arranged to get our things out of storage.  Then we were going to sub-let for the summer.  B was very peeved about it, but I'm glad now.  $65. is so much and then we'd have to hunt another place next year.  We have the college owned house promised to us if it is vacated and we'll take it unless we find something better beforehand.

We are going to a dinner tonight and one Tues. night.  One is the Art Club dinner and B is the after-dinner speaker.  I think he's going to talk on New England.

My coat finally came and I sent it right back.   I didn't like it at all and it didn't feel good.  We went downtown yesterday and I bought a navy topper--very nice.

I've worked on sun suits this week and have two practically finished.  It takes so long to do the handwork on them.  I still haven't blocked my tablecloth.  It will be a lot of work for it will have to be bleached first so I've put it off.

Bobby has been sleeping till about 8:00 but doesn't go to bed till 7:00 or after unless he is extra tired.

I think the china is white (the folder may say) but am not positive.  I've tried to call the store but get busy signals.  Why don't you take the money out of the bank if you really want the dishes and replace it when you sell the calves.  Enjoy using them when you want them."

           Lots of love,

                  B, Bonnie & Bobby
