October 30, 1948 Hi-Ho the Derry-O Bobby Stands Alone

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"Another wonderful day.  The leaves are falling like snow and I don't think I've ever seen so many.  We raked a lot yesterday but you can't tell it now.

There is a football game this afternoon but I don't think I'll go.  I have a cold and I'd hate to pass it around.  Lynn has had a terrible cold and I guess I got it although we stayed away.  Bobby has escaped so far.

Time, October 1948

I don't think Bobby has done much new this week except try to say Mommy and he did stand alone a couple of times.  He is so much better since he learned to pull up and fall.  He doesn't get hurt half as much as he did.  Now, he can turn loose and sit back down without losing his balance.  He got an awfully cute dish from Buddy and Bessie this morning.

I have another pair of overalls almost done for Bobby.  I haven't made anything for myself but the one dress.  It looked real nice.

Bobby still loves Penny.  We let them play together a lot although it's awfully hard to keep Penny clean.  We put her outside a lot and she gets coal soot on her.  Everyone burns soft coal and it is awful.

We haven't been to church since I came.  The University Christian Church is less than a block down the street so we'll probably go there.  The minister called on us this week.

I've been waxing the kitchen floor this morning.  Bobby and Penny sure can get it dirty and it is so much easier kept clean when it's waxed.

B is about ready to go to the game and I want him to mail this so I'll stop for now.  Hope you are both fine."

              Lots of love,

                     B, Bonnie & Bobby
