November 6, 1948 The Snowsuit, The Plum Pudding Plans and Still No News

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"Another week gone and I don't think I've done anything.  I did go down town yesterday but it poured rain and I didn't get much done.  I got Bobby's snow suit which we had ordered from Wards and a pair of shoes for him.  We didn't really try the snow suit on him so I don't know whether it's going to do or not.  The cap to it was too small.  I looked for my coat but didn't have time to look much.

I'm still coughing but feel all right.  Bobby had a runny nose and was hoarse one day but doesn't seem to have any cold now.  B has it though.  We have stayed in all week and since Lynn's cold has been so bad they couldn't play together so they both have been kind of lonely.  Lynn is about o.k. again so maybe next week they can play.  It has rained much of this week or else been cloudy but it isn't very cold.

We have to take the babies for their last shot today--that is, the last for whooping cough and diphtheria.  Smallpox will be next and that will be all for a year or so.  Then there will be a booster shot that reinforces the first shots.

I guess we'll eat dinner at Rosalynn's on Thanksgiving.   All her girls and boy friends will be there.  We'll have to start home Sunday morning but anything you plan for Fri. or Sat. will be all right with us.  If you want to go to Beulah's Thurs. go ahead.  I want to make Plum Pudding for all of us if I can find the fruit but so far I have only part of it.

There is another football game this afternoon but Bobby and I won't go.  I'm not getting much good out of my ticket.  We bought season tickets.  I am going to a movie at the college today.  They have one every week and we bought tickets for them too.  Then there are special programs that we can see with our ticket.

This week we heard the First Piano Quartet.  Maybe you've heard them on the radio.  They sure can play the pianos.

There just isn't any news and I must get the dishes washed while Bobby is asleep."

                                                                                   Lots of love,

                                                                                         B, Bonnie & Baby

NOTES from Ann:  It seems odd that Bonnie didn't write about the election in '48, for she was knowledgeable about the campaign, remembered it well and was irritated by the Southern democrats' actions.  I'm certain that she followed it all in spite of her complete focus on Bobby.  For information on the Chicago Tribune's big mistake:   http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/chi-chicagodays-deweydefeats-story,0,6484067.story
