October 23, 1948 Normal Is Alive, Bobby Is Asleep, People Are Friendly and The Tea Was Nice

October 23, 1948 The Marching N
Dear Mother & Daddy,

"Normal is really alive today--it's Homecoming at the school.  It all started about three days ago but this is the big day.  There was a nice parade at 9:00 this morning and then a band contest.  Bobby slept through most of the parade but I watched from the window and then we all went to hear the bands.  All parades go right past the house which is nice.  This afternoon we're going to take Bobby to the football game.  I'll probably have to bring him home after an hour or so.  This is a beautiful day but the wind is a bit sharp.

We have ordered Bobby a snow suit from Wards--couldn't find his size here.  The cold days we had made people buy them, I guess.  I made him a brown coat and a pair of red flannel overalls and he will wear them today.  The little blue coat of Jerry's is almost too little.  Bobby is getting to be such a big boy.  He has been extra good all week and has another tooth.  It seems like he has another tooth every time I write but maybe he won't get anymore soon.  He has 8 now.

I looked for your material in one place but she didn't have the grey.  She said there was a "Wellecks" dry good store somewhere in St. Louis that has a big assortment.  Maybe you could match it there.  She didn't know the address but maybe you can see their ad in the Globe or have Buddy look up the address in the telephone directory.  Try sending a sample there and to Famous-Barr.  I'll keep looking, though.

Yes, we like Normal and the people as well as we did New Britain.  People here are very friendly and accommodating.  We like our house, too.  It would be nicer to have it all on one floor but I'm used to the stairs now and they don't bother me.  Then it doesn't matter so much if the bedrooms get in a mess when they are upstairs.

The hayride became a party in the dormitory because it rained but we had a wonderful time.  One of B's classes came over here for an evening this week and we enjoyed that too.

The tea at Larsen's last Sunday was real nice but Bobby cried after us for the first time and the poor sitter had a time.  Everything was rosy when we got back.  I've got to get busy if I get the dishes done before Bobby wakens."

                   Lots of love,

                         B, Bonnie & Baby
