May 29, 1948 Flying Weeks, Better Kicking, Hand Sewing, Good Singing and The Homecoming

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"The weeks fly by so fast that I don't seem to get anything done.  I just realized yesterday that we will be coming home in about three weeks.  School is out in a couple of weeks but it will take us several days to get ready to come.  I'll try to tell you next time just when you can expect us.  I'm getting so anxious for all of you to see Bobby.  We are so proud of him.  I've been working on a sun suit for him and want to make several before we come home.  It has suddenly got hot here so he's been wearing just his diaper and shirt.  He likes it that way--he can kick so much better.  He surely is a little darling and is still so good.  No, he doesn't cry much--only when he gets hungry or tired.  I try to feel him before he gets too hungry so he really cries very little.

I've been trying to make a rayon jersey dress but sewing by hand is so slow.  I'm going to make some house dresses while I'm home for I sure need them.

Last night we went to the annual spring concert at the college.  It was so nice.  They really have a good music teacher here.

There is to be a faculty picnic next Saturday and then the department may have a picnic.  There are always so many things going on at school the last few weeks.

I had an announcement from Marjorie Ann.  It hardly seems possible that she will be going to college next year.  I'm so glad they are going to let her go and that Francis Jr. is going to go on.  They really have a nice family.

What kind of coat did you get?  I'm surprised that Charlotte didn't enjoy Springfield.

Aggie is going to have her hands full the next few days.  Alice is sick and Jody has had her tonsils and adenoids out.  She is coming home from the hospital today.

I got a letter from the church about their big homecoming.  I am going to send them a little money for their church--have always thought I would give something but never got around to it.

Hope Daddy's feeling better now."

                Lots of love,

                      B, Bonnie & Baby

NOTE from Ann:  Although Israel won it's war for independence, the cost was 6000 lives.  For a good summary of the events of May, 1948 and the response of the UN Security Council:  http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/History/1948_War.html
