"Exciting things have been happening to us the past week. B got a letter last Sat. afternoon from Ill. and they wanted him to come there for the summer school. It meant so much to us but B didn't want to leave the school here without someone to take his place after promising to stay. He called Dr. Wampler and he told him to go on but B waited till Tuesday when Dr. Wampler persuaded another one of the men in the Dept. to take B's classes. So we're going to Ill. for the summer. We'll leave here on the 21st and probably see you the 26th or 27th for we want to go through Normal and see if we can find a house. School starts July 5 so that will mean only a few days with you unless we can't find any place to live. Then I and the baby may stay with you till B can find a place for us. B will make $920. for the eight weeks there which will sure come in handy with the moving expenses. A mover here estimated $250. to $300. for taking all our things and although much of it isn't very good it couldn't be replaced for that now so we're planning to move everything.
Another special delivery letter came this morning saying that the head person in Philosophy has died and that means B will be top man in that Dept. Life has certainly been good to us. Even if we don't get to be home long we can come again at the end of the summer session. It's all so thrilling.
There are so many things to do we don't know what to do first. The faculty picnic is today but we aren't going. It's at noontime and I didn't want to take Bobby or leave him with a sitter so we're staying home. The Swanns are coming over after supper so that will be better and more fun. There is a tea next week and Edith Swann is having a luncheon for me on Thursday so we really have a busy time before us. Next week is exam week so B will be up to his ears in test papers.
Bobby has a little cold but it hasn't affected his appetite in the least. He still eats like a little pig.
Next Sunday is Dad's day and I'm sending a little package. Hope you are both fine and that it will be an extra nice day for you. I love you, Daddy.
I must get Bobby's bath ready. We'll be seeing you real soon."
Lots of love,
B, Bonnie & Baby

Notes from Ann:
Today's letter is the last one written from East Berlin as the Connecticut years come to an end. It seems like a good opportunity for me to thank several people who have been so helpful in providing resources for the blog. And so, to the Librarians, Archivists, Drama and Athletic Departments and the Yale Daily News staffs, a hearty Thank-You! To the New Haven Public Library staff and all who granted permission to post images, thanks to you as well!
The next letter posted will be the first written from Illinois. Before that however, I will post something special each day about the Connecticut friends of B & Bonnie. Look for the first one on Saturday evening, June 9. Thanks for reading and be assured that by 1953 (in about 3 months real time) the family will embark on a grand adventure which will make the letters much more interesting!
