June 26, 1943 The Dentist, The Doctor, A Little Homesick , The Chickens and The Railroads

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"We got your letter today and one from B's folks.  They were the first letters we had gotten this week.
It is really hot here, but it cools off at night so we can sleep good.  It hasn't been raining so much.

The stores are going to close every Wednesday afternoon during the summer so I'll have a little extra time.  My vacation begins Monday.  I haven't planned to do much except to go to the dentist.  I have a cavity that needs to be filled.  I had a nice surprise today.  The store gave us each a full weeks' pay as a bonus.  They give them about every six months but I hadn't been here long enough when the last one was given.

We haven't been doing much except work all week.  The work doesn't hurt us though, for we're just fine.  I'm glad you're feeling better, Mother.  I hope you won't go to Hunter's Clinic because they will take all of your money and not do you any more good than I could.  You would have to go there and stay for a while and you know you wouldn't like that.  Why don't you write to Dr. Brown and go back to him?  The ration board would give you some extra coupons so you could drive.  I believe he could help you more than anyone.

I wish we were home.  We could really kill and dress those chickens (and get rid of them when they were fried-ha!).  B got a nice pork roast tonight.

We're counting the months till Christmas and the way time flies it won't be long.  If nothing happens we plan to come home for the holidays.  It all depends on whether B will have much vacation and whether we can get passage or not.

Write again soon."

                                               Love and kisses,

                                                           B & Bonnie

NOTE from Ann:  Click the link to hear one of B & Bonnie's favorite tunes.  Benny Goodman's "Taking a Chance on Love" was the #1 hit song from June 6 - 26, 1943.
