May 23, 1954 Walking in the Mountains and Wading in the River

Diary Entry:  May 23, 1954

"After lunch took a walk into mts. & over back paths.

One large house was airing the tatami.  Old lady beating it as we would a rug. 

Children out with butterfly nets playing in fields.

Workmen on road & new water reservoir stopped to watch us go by.  We are still curious.  

  

Went down to river & children had wonderful time in wet sand.  Kiminoed women waded river.  Others walked thru water in geta.  Children wading."
