November 3, 1951 Short Evenings, Good Glasses and Scarce News

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"It is already bedtime but if I don't get this written now it will probably be late again like last week's letter.  The evenings are so short after I get the children to bed and there are always so many things to do.

I have been working on my suit coat.  The skirt is ready to hem.  After I sealed the envelope last week I saw the scraps I had planned to send you.  The glue was too dry by then and I couldn't get the letter open without tearing up the envelope so I'll try to remember them this time.

It has really been cold today and we had some snow this morning.  The thermostat that B put on our furnace really works nicely.  Our trouble was always getting the house too hot.

B had his eyes checked last week and is getting some new glasses.  These frames are about gone and he's getting plastic ones this time.  The Dr. is changing the lens over the bad eye and is going to make that eye work a little too.  Always before that lens has just been plain glass and B didn't even use that eye.  He was very pleased with the thorough examination he got and said they used things he had never seen before.  The exam and glasses are costing $34. but B thinks he got his money's worth.  Maybe they could make you some good glasses, Mother.

October is gone now and you still haven't come to see us.  Why don't you come for Thanksgiving?

News is scarce.  We haven't done much this week.  Did you get paid for the chickens?"

               Lots of love,

                        Bonnie

The scraps finally included in the letter.

NOTE:  In the light news of the day, the Trumans and Queen Elizabeth get together for a photo shoot.  http://www.whitehousehistory.org/whha_photographs/whitehouse_british-visits-slides.html
