February 24, 1951 Spring-like, Green and Ivory, It Wasn't So Bad and A Nice Big Baby

Sitting up at last
Dear Mother & Daddy,

"It is quiet around here for the children are asleep and B is at school.  We have had a wonderful spring-like day so we were all outside for the first time in ages.  Bobby and I gave Ann a ride in the carriage and we all enjoyed it.  She sits up now and another tooth is barely through.  She is still doing all right on her formula so I'm still adding whole milk.

I forgot to tell you that Mr. Dorland got us a better stove.  The oven door fell off the old one and it was so old that you couldn't get parts so he just junked it and bought a used table top stove.  It cooks fine and looks pretty good even if it is green and ivory.

My party is over at last.  There are 27 in the club but only 9 came.  So many of them don't like the hour (1:00) which is terrible for anyone with a family.  I didn't want to have it but was told it was my turn and there wasn't anything else I could do. The children were real good and it wasn't so bad, after all.  My house looked real pretty.  My bedspread covers both beds.  We have them together and make them as one big bed.

I'm sorry I couldn't write letters on the Valentines but I barely got them mailed.

Toni is pregnant again and expects her baby in June.  David is such a nice big baby and can take a few steps.

Eve is going to have to have a serious operation--probably in early summer.  She has been going to their family Dr. for about a year but didn't think much was wrong until a few weeks ago.  She has difficulty getting out of a chair after she sits a few minutes.  This causes the pain and it will increase until it is unbelievable.  He is still doing tests but Eve says she is going to go to someone else before she has any operation.

We are all fine and keep hoping that we'll have more days like today.  We are all tired of winter.

Hope you are all fine."

                Lots of love,

                      Bonnie

NOTE:  By the end of February, 1951, U.N. forces were beginning to see some success in Korea. Although the conflict was not yet close to its end, a period of stabilization of the war had begun.  To see excellent photos and an explanation of the war's progress, use this link:  http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/events/kowar/51-stab/51-stab.htm
