April 28, 1951 Never See Grandma Again, One Dress Ready to Hem, One to Return and One to Alter
Dear Mother & Daddy,
"It doesn't seem possible that I'll never see Grandma again. I would liked to have seen her once more. I'm sure she looked nice. If you had called me Sunday B would have brought me home and we tried to figure out some way of getting there anyway but just couldn't. It was too late for the train and would have taken too long for B to cancel all his meetings and go through all that has to be done if one is absent. I guess it is a good thing you waited till Mon. to call for it would have meant so much more work for everyone and the children would have been upset.
I was disgusted with that phone call (florist) but was afraid to wait longer for fear you couldn't get flowers on time. They sound real nice and thanks for going to the trouble of getting them.
B's birthday wasn't very exciting. He had two extra meetings so spent most of the day and evening at school. I ordered him some records but they haven't come.
John Henry & Fannie gave the baby a real pretty name. Marge Wade has a little girl--Martha Nan. She expects Alan to come down with measles any minute so is a bit worried. Dr. Cline said it was o.k. to bring the baby home. It won't take them.
I've been wanting to write to Beulah but just can't get it done. I want to ask her if she wants those couch cushions. I'll send them to her if she does. Like to get rid of them.
Yes, B is going to teach this summer. The session begins in June & runs till Aug. 10, I think. We'll have a month off before the fall term begins.
I have my dress ready to hem and want to get it done today so I can wear it tonight. We are going to a party tonight and it is hot today. We have the windows all open--it's wonderful.
I sent one of my dresses back to Aldens but kept the navy polka dot. It has to have the shoulders done over, though. You know how they always fit me.
Hope you are all fine."
Lots of love,
Bonnie
NOTE: Pictured above are Henry and Lottie Jones, Bonnie's grandparents on her mother's side. It's the only known photo and I'm uncertain of the date. Lottie was born March 10, 1862 and died April 22, 1951.
