September 25, 1948 Travel and Science for Bobby, A Stag Party for B and A Round of Teas for Bonnie

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"It is really fall.  We have been having a fire in the furnace and Bobby has been wearing the wool overalls of Jerry when we go out.  He has worn the little blue coat, too.  It fits fine.

When I said bobby had changed I just meant he has grown and is a little boy now instead of a baby.  He started to crawl last Sunday and can really travel now.  We let him play on the floor a lot & right now he's trying to catch dust particles that he sees in the sun which pours in our dining room every morning.  There is a nice bay window in here.  Bobby is beginning to say "Daddy", too.  He is so funny to watch.  I just can't tell you how sweet he is.   He has five teeth and the other front one looks like it will come through anytime now.

Social activities are beginning at school.  B went to a stag party Thurs. night and we're going to an all school party tonight.  There is a round of teas coming up too, so I want to go to town this afternoon and see what kind of dress material I can find even if my machine hasn't come.  I look for it any day so I can have some sewing ready to do.

A photographer from the Bloomington paper came to the house and took the picture.  It was in Sunday's paper.

We haven't done anything about the dog.  If we do get one, it will probably have to be black for the others are so high.

The people we rent from had a garden and we're still getting tomatoes from it.  There are loads of carrots & limas too.

Bobby still eats a lot.  He has soft boiled eggs, bacon sometimes & toast along with his fruit & cereal for breakfast.  He has discovered how to blow bubbles in water or orange juice & really has fun.

I must stop and put him to bed for his nap.  He is so good."

               Lots of love,

                       B, Bonnie & Bobby

NOTE from Ann:  On Truman's whistlestop campaigning in El Paso on this day, he talked about the Republicans resistance to the reclamation program which brought electric power and irrigation to the west as an aid to its growth.  For the complete text:  http://www.trumanlibrary.org/whistlestop/50yr_archive/elpaso.htm
