October 7, 1944 Not Much News, Looking for a Hat and Baseball

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"It's summer time again.  This week has been cold and everyone wore winter coats but today it's so hot we have all of the windows open.

I'm sorry my letter was late.  I'll try to get them mailed a little earlier.  Don't worry if my letter doesn't get there on time.  It won't be because I'm sick.  B would write if I couldn't.

We are just fine.  School goes on as usual.  B had a call this morning about another teaching job.  It was the Junior College where he taught the first year we were here.  Of course, he couldn't take it but teaching jobs seem to be plentiful.

I hope Beulah had a nice birthday and that she got the package I sent.  I didn't get it mailed till Saturday but that's the only time I can shop now because I don't get home from school till 5:00.

This week has been an ordinary week of work and study so there isn't any news.  We're expecting Sully and his girl next weekend and we're all going to the football game Saturday afternoon.

I'm going to look for a hat this afternoon.  I need a brown one to wear with my tweed coat.  I can't see why you want a new coat.  I thought your black one was very nice.  You could probably get a much nicer one for your money next year.

B is listening to the ball game.  We both got interested when the St. Louis teams won the pennants.

There just isn't any news so I'd better go get something for supper."

                                           Lots of love,

                                                      B & Bonnie

NOTE  from Ann:  1944 was a great baseball year in St. Louis.  See the link below for a fun look at  the St. Louis Streetcar World Series.
