October 21, 1944 Meat Stamps, Pre-War Quality Goods, The Dames Plan, Bread and Cheese Puff and Cheese Spread

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"Maybe this will get to you when it should.  We have had lunch and I'm going to go to the library for awhile.  I get story books for my kids to read and they always look forward to new books on Monday.

B went out this morning and did our grocery shopping.  He got him some new shoes and some new sox and garters.  The garters are all elastic and as good as pre-war material.  There are lots of things on the market now.  We can buy cheese most any time.  If you have any extra meat points send us a few.  We have eaten too many steaks i guess because we discovered this morning that we had 20 points to last 10 days.  Don't send them if you need them.

It's raining today and is real cold.  We'll be having snow and real winter soon, I guess.

I'm awfully sorry Daddy's arm is bothering him.  Why don't you try again to find someone to wash for you?  Poor Grandma is sick most of the time, isn't she?  I hope she is better now.

This week has been a busy one.  Tuesday night I had a committee meeting and we made plans for our first Dames meeting this fall.  Wednesday night all of the old Dames got together and talked over the plans.  We're all set now for our meeting Nov. 8.

Horace is still in the hospital.  He is better but has to wear a back brace.  It seems that a disc between two of his back bones is broken.  He is to be released from the hospital in two weeks and is being sent to the state of Washington.  We're so afraid he'll still have to go overseas.

There isn't any news so write soon."

                                          Lots of love,

                                                  B & Bonnie
