August 31, 1966 A Quick Trip To Richland and The Summer of '66 in the News
Dear Mother & Daddy,
"Bob got home Monday afternoon and looks so fine. He and Malcolm want to come to Richland for a few days so all of us will come Saturday unless we have to change the plans. B has to be in the office Tuesday so we'll come back Monday but if it is all right with you, the boys will stay another 2 or 3 days.
They want to see some caves and Malcolm will have his car. He and a college student did a lot of exploring around Rolla last year but he can't get enough of it.
I don't know what time we'll start Saturday but won't be there before mid-afternoon. We'll you call B's mom & tell her we're coming.
I hope Daddy is fine and you aren't tired after your trip."
Love,
Bonnie
NOTE: Our mom would read magazines in the car during the road trips, always commenting. I remember well her saying, "Things are bad in the south now, well, everywhere, and they'll get worse before they get better. If they get better." I learned a lot during those trips.
