"Into Kobe to dentist, barber for B & ordered Mother's dishes.
After rests Frances Bray and children and B & I went to beach. Found shells and children played in water. Ate picnic lunch and got home late but happy."

"Rain, no water, no lights in evening. Went early to Osaka for permanent & get Bob's hair cut. B took tickets & passports to Kobe to check with N.Y.K."

I remember this beach outing- it was great. We caught crabs and other tiny critters in the seaweed that washed up on shore. There was a crowd of Japanese children who wanted to watch us change- I suppose to make sure we all looked the same underneath our clothes.
