Bonnie & Bobby in Missouri |
"This week has gone by so fast and yet I haven't done much. Bobby has been real good and is getting into his old habit of going to bed right after supper once more. I get along fine without the basket. There is a play pen and high chair here so they help, of course. He sits in the high chair to eat most of his meals. He takes his orange juice there, too, and I don't spill it all over him now. The walker works fine except we haven't greased it yet and it makes so much noise.
The neighbors here are so nice. They have brought tomatoes, apple sauce and cookies and we're invited out to supper at the house next door tonight.
The house is so comfortable and stays quite cool. The back yard and front porch are wonderful. The only trouble is that the houses are so close together. There is no yard on either side and it is hard to distinguish noises.
We have washed this morning and it is getting close to lunch time. B & Bobby are laying on the floor. Bobby still tries to crawl but can't quite make it yet.
This afternoon we are going to see the duplex again--where we'll be moving. We want to talk to them about several things.
Bobby is so happy. He knows the car now and begins to jump when he sees it. B comes home at 11:00 and stays till almost one every day. He has to leave early, though--before 7:30. His day is finished at 2:00 so we usually go down town or for a ride.
I got the wool for my skirt yesterday and will cut it soon. I cut the pieces for the blouse and what a job to cut them right.
Hope we have a letter from you soon. Hope you're all fine."
Lots of love,
B, Bonnie & Baby
NOTES from Ann: B, Bonnie & Bobby went to Missouri in the summer of 1948 to visit family and friends. Bonnie and Bobby stayed while B went on to Illinois to teach in the summer session. He stayed with an ISNU faculty family, the Arthur Larsens. Bonnie and Bobby joined him in early August after they had found a place to live.
In the world news: The 1948 Olympics in London, commonly known as the Austerity Games, closed on August 14, 1948. Germany, Japan and the Soviet Union did not participate. For great photos, videos and more information: http://www.olympic.org/london-1948-summer-olympics
