October 30, 1943 Preparing for Philadelphia

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"I have been pressing clothes and getting ready for our trip tomorrow.  We can hardly wait.  I'm taking off from work at 12:00 and we plan to start as soon as we can.  We have been saving our coupons so we are driving.  It will take us all afternoon because we'll have to drive slowly.  We are meeting Horace in a Hotel where a Lieutenant friend of Horace's made reservations for us.  We'll come back late Sunday evening.

B is all fixed up and ready for school to start Monday morning.  He is quite anxious.  He got a very nice tan top coat which is waterproof and has a heavy button-in lining And he got a tan hat and pigskin gloves.  You ought to see him dressed up.

We got your letter today and I'm glad you both are feeling good.  I'm glad you liked the candy.

Where are David and Paul stationed?  We haven't heard from David in so long we haven't any idea where he is.  One of the girls I work with is from Springfield (I probably told you about her) and she brought me last Sunday's paper.  We read the thing from cover to cover.  I forgot to thank you for the stamps.  We got them Monday.  They really come in handy.

We are enjoying our apartment.  It's so nice to have room to really live in.  You asked about my linens.  Almost all of my lunch cloths are really breakfast cloths but I had the one white cloth that Granny Gibson gave us.  I ordered a cotton cloth & napkins from Sears and expected it to be here before Sully came but it was late so we used the old cloth.  Some of these days I'll get around to getting a nice linen cloth.

It's getting late so I better to to bed.  I'll write and tell you all about our trip."

                                            Worlds of love,

                                                          B & Bonnie
