April 27, 1943 Easter, The Sewing Machine, Congress and A Note from B

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"The last three days have been almost perfect.  I guess spring is almost here for the trees are all budded and you can almost see the buds grow from day to day.  Yesterday was Easter and what a wonderful day for people to parade.  They really did here too!  I got a navy leather purse and navy kid gloves to finish out my outfit and looked as nice an anyone with my last year's coat.  Easter here is a lot different from what it is at home.  There are many Catholics here and Sully says they consider it a more important day than Christmas.  They really celebrate and people shop for gifts like they do at Christmas.  B gave me a box of Coty's bath powder.  I was so surprised.  We went to church and stayed home the rest of the day.   Sully came over a while last night.

We haven't seen any plays lately.  "Tobacco Road" is here this week and we have tickets for it.

I saw a portable sewing machine advertised in the paper yesterday and phoned about it, but they asked $50. for it and I thought that was too much.  Malleys has some Whites for about $57. so I could buy a new one for a little more than $50.  They are console machines, though.  Maybe you would be interested in one.  I'm getting the sewing fever again and B's mother sent me some material for a dress.

It's getting late and I have to wash some stockings so write soon."

                                     Lots & lots of love,

                                                       B & Bonnie
