November 23, 1942 The Dance, The New Haven Green and Cupcakes

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"It has been a lovely day.  This afternoon I made some cupcakes.  We usually make fudge on Sunday, but didn't today.

Last night we stepped out into real society.  The Dames had a dance.  We first decided not to go and then decided we better go and find out how to act.  It was formal so we had to buy some clothes.  B got a tuxedo and really looked nice.  He got some new black shoes too.  I bought an evening wrap and some gold slippers.  The wrap is three-quarter length, black velvet with a round stand-up collar edged in white fur.  The slippers are low-heeled sandals similar to my silver ones.  My blue dress would have been perfect to wear but of course it is at home.  When you send our Xmas box (if you do ha!) roll it up and stick it in, then I'll have it next time.  We had a real nice time and there was a 5 piece orchestra.

The blue dress that Bonnie would eventually bring from home, and the cape

New Haven is built around a square of two blocks.  There is a sort of park with walkways and benches.  They call it the green and in the center of the green are three churches with high spires.  Pigeons of all colors live in these spires and it's more fun to watch them.  I have to cross the green every morning when I go to work and I love to watch them eat.  People bring big sacks of bread and popcorn to feed them.  They flock around the people by the hundreds.

I hope everybody is fine.  Answer soon."

Loads of love,

B & Bonnie
