August 13, 1955 The Croquet Set, The Library and The Birthday Party

Dear Mother & Daddy,

"This week has been wonderfully cool.  Today was the last of summer school and everyone was so grateful for a cool day for graduation.  It was outside and no one had to melt in their heavy cap and gown.  Usually the sun beats down and everyone roasts.

Bob has managed pretty well to keep busy this week.  He picked a croquet set out of the catalog and ordered it so he's waited for it to come.  It came today so everyone has had fun with it.  He does real well at saving his money and still has some including his silver dollar and the $2 bill that Phyllis gave him.

The children and I went to the public library yesterday and got some books to read.  It was fun for all of us.

I've been painting an old chest of drawers and it has taken me all week to give it three coats of ivory paint.  It was dark.

We had a letter from Japan asking us to keep a Japanese high school girl while she attended high school here next year.  We wanted to take her but simply haven't the room.  We did find a home for her and promised to help her all we can.  She will have money for her room and board.

We are going to have a little birthday party for Ann on Wednesday.  She wanted a doll stroller so we have that hidden.

Everyday we think we'll hear from our friends.  We wish they would come while it is cool.  It would be much nicer.  We'll let you know when we'll be home as soon as we hear from them.

We're all fine and hope all of you are too."

                  Love,

                      Bonnie

  1. These birthday photos are simply marvelous! Summer (on until October) ushers in a crop of family birthdays this end (including my own in July), so these images seem especially well suited to the (almost) start of summer for me.

That photo of you with the doll and toy stroller is beyond adorable!

Big hugs & happiest Friday wishes,
    ♥ Jessica

  2. Hi Jessica! Thanks so much for your sweet comment! I believe that these are the last of the birthday party pictures and there aren't any more to be found so we are glad to have these. I hope you're enjoying summer and continue to get out and about to do all the things you love doing!
