April 25 - 26, 1954 Traveling to Hiroshima and Miyajima

Diary Entry:  April 25, 1954

"Rail & taxi strike.  David Stubbs took us to train on another line.  Raining when we got to Hiroshima.  Alice & Evelyn Gloster & Yamasabi-san (a student living there) met our train.  Took taxi to house.  House full of Army people.  Sukiyaki supper.  Took people to train & shopped on way.  Ann went to sleep & had to be carried.  Bob stayed with the girls."

Diary Entry:  April 26, 1954

"Raining but stopped after breakfast.  Took train & ferry to Miyajima (Shrine Island).  Many shops.

Saw a man carving wooden turtle.  Wood carving is specialty of island. Trays very beautiful but expensive.

Ate lunch in tea house way up mt.  Lovely park.

On way home, stopped & ordered a sweater made where Louise got one.  All very tired."
