November 22, 2012 Thanksgiving Greetings and Recipes from the Kobe Women's Club Cookbook

Image from Flower Arrangements of the OHara School, Houn OHara, 1952.

 Dear Readers,

One of my mother's favorite keepsakes from Japan was the cookbook of the Kobe Women's Club, entitled simply, Favorite Recipes.  The American recipes are typical of what you'd expect in a mid-century club cookbook; Tuna Noodle Casserole, Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Marshmallows, Pineapple Molded Salad, Peanut Butter Cookies and so on.  Below are some of the simple international recipes, many of which I'm certain are familiar to many of you.

NOTE:  Each of the watercolors, painted by Mom after our return to Illinois represents a memory of Japan.

In America as we celebrate all for which we are thankful,  I send best wishes to readers everywhere.  Thank you for traveling with us on our journey to Japan!

  1. The watercolours are so evocative aren't they? Interesting recipes too.
